Low Expectation Goals

IEP goals should be challenging, aligned with state standards, and set at an appropriate level to motivate students effectively, fostering progress through high expectations and achievable milestones.

Setting the Right Goals for Students with IEPs 🎯

Many students with IEPs have goals that aren't challenging enough. Good goal setting means having reasonable and enjoyable expectations for all students. It also means understanding that progress isn't always easy or fast. Success comes from finding satisfaction in both small steps and big wins. Goals should also align with state standards, like Common Core.

The Power of Expectations ✨

High expectations can be a great motivator, but they need to be at the right level. If they're too high, students may feel discouraged. When they're just right, students can rise to the challenge and even surpass expectations. This is called the "Pygmalion Effect."

VillageED's Approach 👍

At VillageED, students with IEPs receive SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound) and reasonable goals. We have high expectations for every student, regardless of their disabilities—and you should too!
